Fundraising events so far

2009 Launch:

Girls Aloud Tickets: A prize draw was initiated to win a couple of Girls Aloud tickets at Liverpool Echo Arena in June. This raised over £170.

The winning tickets were drawn by Danielle Gannon, who generiously put them back into the pot in order to be claimed by the runner up: Sarah Lewis. Sarah & Christine Lewis has a great time to a thoroughly entertaining and energetic performance from Girls Aloud.

Round 1:

Mersey Tunnel 10K: This was completed at the end of May, a grueling jog from Liverpool to New Brighton via The Wallasey Tunnel (AKA "the new one"). The weather was freakishly hot which did not help when trying to catch breath. I had not trained properly for the run, in fact the last time I had completed a 10K was at Christmas, when the weather was slighly more.....fresher, shall we say. I had completed a few 5 K training sessions but still not to "fighting fit" standard. Mel on the other hand had done the complete opposite and attended a circuit class only 24hrs before, needless to say she had aching muscles before the run even began!

Together we successfully completed the course and quite enjoyed the experience of running through the tunnel. The organisation of the event was well planned but really could have done with some music on the way round and also a larger FINISH sign, trust me when you are 9 K into it and still cant see the finish line, it becomes slightly de-motivating.

Round 2:

Great North Run: We took part in the Great North Run in Newcastle on 20th September 09 (Half Marathon 13.1miles).

During training the maximum we ran was 11 miles, for those of you that are local that is from New Brighton to Hoylake, along the coastal path AND BACK!!!!

Completing this and hitting the resistance training to build up muscle strength left very little else in regards to exercise.

Race Day: Great event, fabulous day weather wise. Over 50,000 attendees so it got fairly on route. Ran across the Tyne Bridge, the last mile was clearly the best. Not only because of the views along the promenade but the amount of supporters and of course the Red Arrows! Finished in 2 hours 22 minutes. Not bad going for someone who hated running a year ago. We raised £620.00 altogether, so loads of support from friends, family and collegues. Thank you!

London To Paris Bike Challenge 2010

My prediction on getting on my bike last year was right!

Since James accident last year I have been faced with several challenges of which I have endeavoured to try and turn into something positive. This year I have decided to complete the London To Paris cycle challenge, of riding 300 miles over 4 days for charity.

I have teamed up with the Double Tree Club & Spa, Chester in order to raise money for The Hospice of the Good Shepherd and The Alzheimer’s Society, as my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last year. I had looked into this challenge in 2009 with James but we were too late to register and train, which is why we opted for the Great North Run instead. Now being without a running partner I have turned my energy to cycling, something which I have always loved doing anyway, plus you get much further a lot quicker!
